Side by side
| One operation | Two operations | |
|---|---|---|
| Anaesthetics | One, longer | Two, shorter |
| Risk of serious complications | Higher than a tummy tuck alone | Each closer to that operation alone |
| Recovery | One, about six weeks, set by the tummy tuck | Two, the second shorter if it's the breasts |
| Time off and childcare | Arranged once | Arranged twice |
| Cost | From about €17,500 for a tummy tuck and breast lift | Usually more, as the hospital and anaesthetic are paid twice |
When splitting it is worth asking about
- Anyone with health conditions that raise the risk of surgery
- Women with a lot to do, such as a large lift with implants as well as a full tummy tuck
- Anyone who couldn't manage the full recovery at once, for example with very little help at home
If you split it, which first?
There's no fixed order. Many women start with whatever bothers them most. The tummy tuck has the longer recovery, so some prefer to get it done first. Ask your surgeon how long they'd wait between the two, and get both prices in writing.
Whatever you choose
Every doctor practising in Ireland must be registered with the Medical Council, and only a doctor with specialist registration can practise independently as a specialist. For a mummy makeover, check that the surgeon is on the Specialist Division in Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery, using the Medical Council's online register.
Questions people ask
Is it better to do a mummy makeover in one go?
It's cheaper and means one recovery, but the risk of serious complications is higher. It depends on your health and how much is being done.
How long between two operations?
Usually some months. Ask your surgeon.
Which should I have first, tummy or breasts?
There's no fixed order; many start with what bothers them most.
Is two operations more expensive?
Usually, because the hospital and anaesthetic are paid twice.
